ABOUT FRIENDS OF PRAIRIE SKY SCHOOL

Prairie Sky School Vision:

We educate children holistically through Art, Community and Nature.

Our Purpose ~ To deliver the Saskatchewan Curriculum through:

Art … where our curriculum is integrated with visual and performing arts offering mindfulness, expression, and creativity in a natural, beautiful, and purposeful environment.

Community … by nurturing an ethic of support and care:

  • As individuals, we are open, empathetic, and socially responsible.

  • We foster inclusive, holistic relationships that start with individuals then blossom out into the larger community and world.

  •

Nature … through an indigenous lens we care for:

  • The Natural World: We foster our interconnection to the natural world; land, place, people.

  • Human Nature: We celebrate the balance of Head, Heart, and Hands (critical thinking/academics, social/emotional learning, experiential learning/real-life skills) and support the freedom to be who we are.

  • The Nature of Learning: We honour our students’ intrinsic desire to learn and thrive in a safe and holistic environment with effective leadership.

Breakdown of Funding:

As a Non-Profit, Qualified Independent School, Prairie Sky School receives partial funding from the Saskatchewan Ministry of Education. The government funding is 50% of the amount a student receives as per the Regulations within the Education Act for public schools that comes from property taxes; however, this funding does not include the operations and maintenance of buildings, playgrounds, professional services, second-level services or transportation costs. Those costs are made up from charging tuition and fundraising, donations and sponsorship. The actual government tuition funding only covers about 30% of the total operational costs of the school.

Why Our School Stands Out:

At Prairie Sky School, we pride ourselves on our innovative educational philosophies that are tailored to meet the evolving needs of students in 2025 and beyond. With a focus on personalized learning and small class sizes, we foster a nurturing and supportive environment where each student can thrive. Moreover, our commitment to diversity and inclusion is evident in our bursary program, which provides vital financial assistance to Indigenous students, newcomers to Canada, and single-parent families. These bursaries, along with our newly established committee and our nonprofit affiliate, Friends of Prairie Sky School (in the process of becoming a charity), underscore our dedication to equitable access to education.
